Matt Hughes is a lot of things: confident, extremely strong, a gifted wrestler, and the most dominant welterweight champ in UFC history. One thing he's not, though, is overly bashful. So Hughes appears to be chomping at the bit to finally shut up Matt Serra, the funny wiseguy from Long Island who currently holds the championship belt that Hughes feels belongs to him.
But the rivalry goes even deeper. In Season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter, Matt Serra competed for and eventually won the crown, as well as a championship title shot. Along the way, Serra also shot off his mouth about Hughes, who appears on several shows as a guest coach, basically calling out Hughes for being, among other things, a "dick", a "cocky bastard" and an "arrogant bully who I can't wait to punch in the mouth."
Fighting words. It'll be interesting to see how they translate into action when Season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter premiers Wednesday night.
